Get Involved!
Blue Ox Radio would love to have you on board! We are currently looking for volunteers, both youth and adults, who are interested in creating programming or helping out with the behind the scenes work. Here's just a few ideas:
- Do you have an interest or hobby that others might like to hear about? Create a radio show where you can tell the world! Or better yet, get together with some others who share the same interest and have a weekly on air discussion.
- Enjoy acting? Create some old time radio dramas or comedies!
- Are you good with a computer? You can help others to edit their recordings and get them ready to go on the air.
- Have you been involved in fundraising activities before? We can always use more help with organization and community outreach.
- Are you a writer? Come read your essay, story, or poem on the air!
- Are you a social butterfly? How about bringing one of our digital recorders to an event or doing some on-the-spot interviews?
If you would like to get involved at KKDS, please get in touch with us. We have weekly meetings at the Blue Ox Community School that you can come to to share your ideas.
How to Propose a Program to KKDS
If you already have a pretty good idea about a program that you'd like to air on KKDS, please print and fill-out our Program Proposal Form and mail it to:

We encourage you to consider our program criteria before submitting your proposal. KKDS is a youth and community radio station serving the Humboldt Bay area. We are committed to providing a local voice to our listeners and we place an emphasis on education and creativity. We are not a platform for promoting any specific group, religion or ideology. At KKDS, we give priority to programs that meet the following:
- Has a local focus
- Created by a group rather than an individual
- Presents something that is not well represented in the local media
- Consists primarily of original content
- Has an educational focus
- Requires little editing by KKDS staff
The programming committee reviews new proposals on a monthly basis, generally on the first tuesday of each month. If your program proposal shows promise, a KKDS staff member will get in touch with you to schedule a meeting.
